Your mail box is full from all those invitations arriving in the mail…your best friend, cousin, or that girl you knew from high school are getting Married! Wedding season is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to amp up your wardrobe for all the Summer Soirees’.
You have your hot date, but now you’re on the hunt for the perfect outfit. Lucky for you, the #bcbabes of Borrowed Charm teamed up with Tony Foss Flowers, Rosie Cheeks Photography, Daffodil Hill and our girl Heather, from Cargo Room to give you a little glimpse into the perfect outfits to wear to any type of summer wedding.
While you can start shopping, remember these wise words & a few rules from wedding planners, who have seen it all before spending.
1. You’re not the Belle of the Ball, so don’t steal the show. Avoid white colors or anything that distracts or pulls attention from the Bride in any way on her Big Day. It’s also wise to avoid wearing the couples wedding colors to keep from being mistaken for a member of the wedding party, or blend in for any of those important social media shots. Unsure of the color palette, simple patterns are always a safe understated elegance option
2. Details. Invitations include all kinds of clues on what to expect. Casual to Black Tie, time of day, the actual invitation itself – all indicate what type of event you’ll be attending. Dress Accordingly. Still not sure, it’s always okay to ask!
3. It’s okay to flaunt your Favorite Feature, but ONLY one. Legs, back, shoulder, neck, stick to one and find a dress that highlights it. To avoid revealing too much on top, consider an illusion neckline or one shoulder dress as great way to highlight your best attributes while still following RULE 1.
4. When in doubt, always Dress Up. Longer dresses tend to lend themselves towards more formal, but a lighter or summer floral can come across casual. Remember shoes & amazing accessories can always make an outfit.
We Accept the Brunch We Think We Deserve
Brunch weddings are the BEST, a little laid back, casual, and perfect for colorful and fun pastels, however they normally require an earlier start to your day. With a late morning start time, selecting something easy and effortless is ideal, to prevent rushing to make it before the ceremony start time. Typically, there is an early exit leaving you the remainder of the day to enjoy the outfit you chose, so consider your afternoon plans when making your selection. With the earlier start and full sunlight these weddings tend to have a slower more relaxed vibe, be prepare to enjoy the lounge off the dance floor sipping mimosa’s with the Bride like we put together here with our Parson’s Chairs and Gold Nesting Tables.
As we mentioned earlier, Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! This is the perfect opportunity to bring out delicate and statement-making pieces. Throw on that yellow cross-body, a cute straw hat, add a pop of color with that fabulous bag, or hop on the latest trend and put a pearl clip in your hair.
This is the best opportunity for soft, trendy, and colorful pieces. Not only is this a sweet look for an early wedding, but you can swap the heels for some cute tennies and go about the rest of your day!
Beach Bound, Let’s Go to the Beach-Each, Let’s Go Away!
What could be better than a getaway to paradise to celebrate the people you love most? The answer is “a getaway to paradise to celebrate the people you love most while wearing the perfect outfit“. Holla to those Destination Wedding invites! From I Do’s oceanside in the sand, or on the patio by the pool, many resorts offer a gorgeous and elegant tropical heaven with many options for where the wedding will be held. Be Prepared.
Destination weddings are your chance to bring out all the tropical, summer, and vibrant vibes, like we used with our Azahara lounge. Don’t shy away from that wicker bag, that red floral print, or those big new sunnies! Pack any item that screams summer. Pair your pattern dress with a simple pair of earrings and sand friendly shoes, grab a fun clutch, and hit the beach to celebrate. Rompers with a little extra accessory would be a perfect piece to add to your suitcase!
With the right outfit, you can take this look from the wedding, to the resort, to a restaurant and even the club for a multi-level look.
An Evening Under the Stars and Beautiful Outdoor Weddings
To dress up, or not to dress up, and just how dressy is dress up? That is the question. In the evening during summer weddings you will likely go from bright daylight, to sunset, and into nightlife all in a few hours. Evening weddings range from Met-gala-esque dresses, Black Tie, to traditional Sunday wear, even casual. Unless specified on the invitation black tie or cocktail attire, wear an outfit that will allow you to remain cool, but still makes a statement with some amazing shoes and jewels.
Since many ceremonies are outdoors, make sure whatever you wear is breathable in the summer heat and can withstand wrinkles or perspiration. An LBD is always a key go-to for evening wedding, a but a trendy black jumper or snazzy linen suit with killer heels are great options to. We love the idea of throwing on this black patterned swing dress with a pair of classy heels and delicate accessories, it sets the perfect tone for an evening event. You can lean towards something more structured, perfect for any event like this beautiful blush midi dress.
One last tip, if you’re in Oklahoma, you never know what to expect with the weather. Bring a cardigan or cute jacket to throw on to enhance the look as the sun goes down especially if the after party is heading out on the town.
